For Immediate Release Rebates Available for Solar Heating, Hot Water ProjectsHARRISBURG – Sen. Chuck McIlhinney (R-Bucks and Montgomery) is urging district residents to apply for rebates for solar heating and solar hot water projects through the new Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Program. As part of the Alternative Energy Investment Act of 2008, consumers and businesses that complete new solar heating or solar hot water projects may be eligible for rebates of up to $2,000 from the Department of Environmental Protection. Rebates will cover up to 35 percent of the cost to design, purchase and install solar heating and energy systems. “Solar energy is a safe, renewable and efficient source of energy, and the installation of solar technology can have a positive impact on both the local environment and the utility bills of consumers and businesses,” McIlhinney said. “I would urge district residents to take a closer look at this new program to help reduce energy use and utility costs.” To be eligible for a rebate, applicants must use an installer on the DEP’s qualified installer list. The two-step application process requires installers to submit a pre-approval application to determine if the applicant is eligible. After pre-approval, the homeowner or business will have 12 months to complete the project and apply for reimbursement. Additional information and applications are available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us/pasunshine or by calling (717) 783-8411.
